Google had their annual I/O development conference this month and many changes to Google Maps are coming. Google rolled out a new core update in the middle of June and plans on more updates are coming next month. One of the main things they focused on was Google Maps on mobile devices. Google is releasing 3 new ad formats Google Maps.
Auto Suggest Ads
The first new ad format is ‘auto suggest ads’. Google will suggest an advertiser when users are searching for a business from a certain location. Say they are looking for a bakery. When they start typing in bakery, it will show an ad for a bakery within a 10-mile vicinity of the search. This will give the business a leg up on the competition.
Navigational Ads
The second change in ad format has to do with the navigation ads. They pop up when users are using Google Maps on route to a destination. They can either click on add to stop at the business or cancel it. The ads are only show when the advertiser is within 5 minute of the route. So the ad won’t pop up on a business 15 minute from the route to the final destination.
Similar Places Ads
The final change in ad format, is similar places. The ads come up when searching for a specific business, but it is closed. The only times these ads pop up is when a destination is closed and a similar one is open. Say it 9 pm and a user searches for their favorite restaurant, Joe’s Crab Shack. Joe’s closed at 8:30 pm, but The Crab Trap is only 4 miles away and open till 10 pm. The similar places search will give information on The Crab Trap and turn-by-turn directions to it.
In conclusion, a business or entity will want to make sure to consistently its Google My Business and Google Maps listing. In addition, it should ensure the information is accurate and relevant.
Google My Business is constantly changing. If your business can’t pay attention to it, find someone who will. Don’t let competitors get the jump on your business.
